Woman Caught Trying to Sell 3-year-old Baby in Niger State

In a recent development, the Niger State Police Command apprehended a 51-year-old woman, Blessing Jeremiah, for the alleged abduction of a three-year-old girl in the Tudun-Natsira area of Minna. The suspect was intercepted at a luxurious bus park around Maitumbi bye-pass Minna, where she intended to transport the child to a buyer in Nnewi, Anambra State, who had reportedly paid her N530,000.

The arrest, made by police operatives from the Tudun-Wada Division, occurred on October 25, 2023, at approximately 19:30hrs. The child, identified as Rahanat Abubakar, was successfully rescued and reunited with her parents. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Wasiu, disclosed these details in a statement on Friday.

During interrogation, Blessing Jeremiah confessed to the abduction, stating that she took the child from a residence in the Tudun-Natsira area around 18:00hrs on the same day. The suspect claimed she was acting on the behalf of a certain Mrs Ejima in Nnewi, Anambra State, who had contracted her to procure a female child for N530,000. Notably, N230,000 was recovered from the suspect at the time of her arrest.

The case is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the alleged mastermind, Mrs Ejima. The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring justice is served in this distressing incident.
