Landmark Triumph: PDP’s Douye Diri Clinches Victory in Bayelsa Governorship Election
In a decisive victory, the incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, emerged as the winner of the state’s governorship election held last Saturday. The official declaration was made by the Returning Officer, Prof Faruq Kuta, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, at the election’s collation center on Monday.
Diri secured a total of 175,196 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 110,108 votes. The Labour Party trailed with 905 votes.
