LASTMA Officer Rewarded N100,000 for Exceptional Traffic Control during Heavy Rain

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Lateef Kabir, has been awarded a cash prize of N100,000 for his exceptional approach in easing traffic congestion. The announcement was made by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, in a statement released in Lagos on Thursday. The award was presented to Kabir by Chief Adekunle Ajayi, the Chief Executive Officer of Ajayi Adekunle & Co.

Adebayo stated that Kabir’s unique approach to easing traffic congestion on Sunday had attracted attention, and he had been spotted by a Nigerian on social media. Kabir was seen channeling floodwater with his bare hands after a downpour on Sunday at Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge inward Ojota area of Lagos. He went out of his way to ensure the free flow of traffic, which drew commendations from members of the public, making him stand out with this initiative.

The Director commended Ajayi for his kind gesture in recognizing the good act and selfless service rendered by Kabir. Adebayo urged motorists, especially commercial bus drivers, to always obey traffic personnel on duty to avoid traffic bottleneck and engender free flow of traffic at any location across the State.

Ajayi’s representative, Alhaji Saheed Bamidele, urged other LASTMA officials to exhibit positive values that were worthy of emulation. Kabir expressed his gratitude to the motoring public, particularly Ajayi, for showing him love and appreciation. He thanked the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, and gave glory to God for the special recognition given to him with the cash reward. According to Kabir, he was just doing his job by ensuring free flow of traffic under heavy rain on that particular day without knowing that all eyes were on him.
