Community Leader in Lagos Arrested by Police for Alleged Assault on Wife
A community leader has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting his wife, as reported by the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA). The agency’s Executive Secretary, Mrs Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, revealed in a statement on Friday that the man had caused severe injuries to his wife on April 9 in the Ajah area of Lagos.Following the report of physical assault, the DSVA intervened by rescuing the survivor and placing her in a private shelter. The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Divisional Police station’s Ajah Family Support Unit and is currently in detention. The Office of the Director of Pubilc Prosecutions has also requested for the duplicate case file.Mrs Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized that domestic violence is a crime against the state and that all forms of abuse, regardless of the perpetrator’s status, are crimes against the state. The agency is dedicated to ensuring that all perpetrators face the full consequences of the law.
