Collaborative Effort by Police and Local Security Groups Rescues 58 Kidnap Victims in FCT

In a joint effort with local security groups, the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has successfully rescued 58 kidnap victims from kidnappers’ dens in communities adjacent to the FCT. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, issued a statement on Sunday in Abuja, revealing that the operation took place in Udulu Forest, Gegu LGA of Kogi State, near Sardauna Forest, Nasarawa State, and other known kidnappers’ dens in neighboring communities. Upon sighting the police-led security team, the kidnappers engaged in a shootout but were subdued, leaving behind their victims with varying degrees of bullet injuries. The rescue mission is part of the ongoing collaborative efforts between the FCT command’s leadership, other security agencies, vigilantes, and hunters from the local communities to combat violent crimes, rescue victims and bring perpetrators to justice. The PPRO has pledged the command’s commitment to sustaining the effort to prevent threats to the safety and security of FCT residents, including rescuing any resident held hostage by criminals and bringing the perpetrators to book. While one of the kidnap victims, Tama Jonathan, unfortunately, died on the spot due to injuries sustained during the rescue operation, the remaining 58 victims are being stabilized in the hospital and will be reunited with their families. FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Haruna Garba, has called on residents to cooperate with the police, be security conscious, and provide credible information.
