Togolese Man Remanded for Allegedly Defiling Neighbor’s 12-Year-Old DaughterIBADAN – In a recent development, a Togolese national, Oloruntobi Kosi, aged 59, has been ordered by a Family Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, to be remanded in a correctional facility. The court ruling came as a result of Kosi’s alleged defilement of his neighbor’s 12-year-old daughter. The police had charged Kosi with defilement, and during the court proceedings, Magistrate Mrs. P. O. Adetuyibi, citing lack of jurisdiction, refrained from taking the defendant’s plea. Instead, she ordered Kosi’s remand at the Abolongo Correctional facility in Oyo Town. The remand will continue until legal advice is received from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).The magistrate adjourned the matter until August 10 for mention, providing ample time for further legal processes to unfold.Prior to the court ruling, Prosecution Counsel Insp Oluwakemi Arowosaye informed the court that on May 3, at approximately 2:00 a.m., at Agric Agbaruru road in Iwere-Ile, Kosi allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with the 12-year-old child without her consent.Arowosaye pointed out that this act contravenes the provisions of Section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law of 2006.
