POLITICAL FURY UNLEASHED: Soludo’s Dismissal of Women’s Community Leader Sparks Mass Protests”

Women in the historic city of Ebenebe, situated in the Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have taken to the streets in protest against the alleged removal of their Women President General, Mrs. Favour Nworah, by the state government.Mrs. Nworah has held the position of President General of the Women Wing of the Ebenebe Town Union since April 2019. However, she was reportedly dismissed in April 2023 by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, following the general elections. The grounds for her removal stem from accusations that she appeared multiple times at rallies organized by the Labour Party, donning their vest and actively supporting their candidates. When approached by journalists, Mrs. Nworah admitted to supporting candidates from the Labour Party for the House of Assembly position. She explained that her support was driven by personal reasons, stating, “I backed the Labour Party and the House of Assembly candidate because he is my husband and has always stood by my side. The candidate from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who ran in the same election, never reached out to me or sought my input as the Women President General, despite belonging to the same ward.””I am still a member of APGA,” she continued, “and I campaigned tirelessly for APGA and Soludo during the 2021 governorship elections. I invested my own funds, products, energy, and time into supporting my party, APGA, to ensure Soludo’s victory. I traversed all the wards in Awka North, ensuring that women’s voices were heard.”The dismissal of Mrs. Nworah triggered widespread unrest within the community, prompting women to demonstrate on the streets, demanding her reinstatement. One of the protesters, Mrs. Florence Nnatu, accused certain community leaders of exacerbating the crisis, which has caused a deep division among the women. Nnatu implored, “We urge our community leaders, our husbands, who have contributed to this divisive situation, to withdraw their involvement.”Reports indicate that Mrs. Josephine Okafor has been appointed as the new women’s leader to replace Mrs. Nworah. The appointment was made by Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs. However, both Obinabo and Christian Aburime, the Press Secretary to Governor Soludo, declined to comment on the matter when contacted for a response via telephone.
