Tragic Incident Claims the Life of Woman Swept Away by Flood in Anambra StateIn a devastating turn of events, a woman identified as Onyinye Okafor met with a fatal accident as she was swept away by a flood in the Oko community of Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State. The incident occurred on Tuesday, following a heavy downpour that inundated the area. The victim, a mother of five hailing from Etti in the Nanka community, had just alighted from a tricycle amidst the rising floodwaters. Prior to the incident, she had visited a local bank to carry out some transactions. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that after parking her motorcycle nearby, she boarded a tricycle to reach the bank. Subsequently, she boarded another tricycle to return to her parked motorcycle and continue her journey to her intended destination.Tragically, as the second tricycle navigated the flooded road, the torrential waters disrupted its movement, causing the tricyclist to lose control. Sensing the imminent danger, Onyinye disembarked from the vehicle, hoping to save herself. However, in a cruel twist of fate, she lost her footing and fell into a drainage channel where the floodwater was flowing. Almost instantly, the powerful current swept her away, despite the desperate attempts of fellow passengers and the tricyclist to rescue her. Sadly, their efforts proved futile, and several individuals sustained injuries in the process.Following an extensive search effort, the victim’s lifeless body was discovered beneath a culvert of a large drainage system at the entrance of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, the next day. Promptly, she was rushed to a nearby medical facility, where the attending physician confirmed her tragic demise. At present, the incident has not been officially reported to the state Police Command, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga. As investigations unfold, authorities aim to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident that claimed the life of Onyinye Okafor.
