PDP Accuses APC’s Hope Uzodinma Of Embezzling N206 Billion in Local Government Funds

In a recent development, the opposition party in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has demanded that Governor Hope Uzodimma provide a detailed explanation for the alleged misappropriation of over N206 billion in local government funds by his administration. The call was made by the party’s publicity secretary, Collins Opurozor, during a press conference held at the party secretariat.Opurozor expressed grave concerns regarding the state of the local government system, emphasizing its crucial role in expanding and sustaining the democratic space while promoting democratic values. He accused Governor Uzodimma of undermining this mechanism established by law.”Senator Uzodimma must, without any further delay, disclose the whereabouts of the N206 billion received on behalf of the local governments,” Opurozor asserted. He further lamented the dire consequences of this alleged misappropriation, particularly given that over 70 percent of Imo State’s population resides in rural areas. According to him, the vital means through which governance can reach the people has been decimated. The PDP spokesperson also highlighted a recent shift in the state’s political climate, noting that the government has resorted to spreading misinformation, lies, and deceit as part of a potential strategy to secure victory in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 11, 2023. Opurozor’s statement expressed deep concern over the state government’s alleged campaign of falsehoods.Furthermore, Opurozor directed accusations at Hon. Declan Emelumba, the Imo State commissioner for information and strategy. The PDP spokesman accused Emelumba of disseminating false claims that the state chapter of the PDP had organized plans to stage a protest in Abuja concerning the escalating insecurity in Imo State. The Peoples Democratic Party’s demand for transparency and accountability serves as a significant development in the political landscape of Imo State, as the opposition party seeks to shed light on the alleged misappropriation of local government funds and raise awareness about the state of the local government system. The response from Governor Hope Uzodimma and the ruling party is yet to be seen.
