7 People Killed Brutally As Gunmen Attack Community In Plateau State

Gunmen Attack Kerang Community, Leaving Seven Dead Despite Imposed Curfew on Kerang community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State has been rocked by a tragic incident, as gunmen launched a deadly assault resulting in the loss of at least seven lives. This unfortunate attack occurred despite the 24-hour curfew imposed by the government on the local government area, following previous assaults by armed individuals that claimed numerous lives in nearby communities just last week. The unsettling news was confirmed by Joseph Kabir, a resident of Kerang community, who spoke to The PUNCH in Jos on Tuesday. Kabir revealed that among the victims were a married couple who tragically met their untimely demise. In a somber event, the deceased individuals were laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony held earlier today.Providing details of the incident, Kabir stated, “I can confirm to you that five people, including a man and his wife, were mercilessly killed by terrorists between 5:00 and 8:00 pm on June 26, 2023, in Sohon Kerang Community of Kerang District, Mangu Local Government.”Expressing disappointment, Kabir added, “We had hoped that the government’s imposition of a curfew would ensure that security agents could prevent these terrorists from inflicting harm on innocent residents. However, the gunmen brazenly stormed our community, situated behind the SWAN Water Company Ltd in Kerang, around 5:00 pm, unleashing a hail of gunshots that tragically claimed the lives of the victims.”Following their heinous act, the assailants managed to escape into the surrounding bush, evading apprehension. The discovery of the victims’ bodies was made this morning by grief-stricken residents, who now find themselves in a state of mourning. As of the time of this report, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, had yet to issue a public statement regarding the incident. The community remains on edge, grappling with the aftermath of this brutal attack, as residents and authorities alike seek answers and demand justice for the lives lost.
