Sit-At-Home Enforcement: Gunmen Set Market and Vehicles Ablaze In Imo State.

In a troubling incident that unfolded on Friday night, unidentified gunmen carried out a destructive act in Amaraku market, situated in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state. Fueled by anger over the alleged violation of a sit-at-home order, the assailants resorted to burning a significant section of the market. This unsettling act of aggression also extended to the razing of vehicles and the destruction of goods and services predominantly owned by women traders.Reports indicate that the gunmen, who were later observed fleeing the scene, targeted the Obolo community within the same Isiala Mbano LGA, where they continued their destructive rampage. Notably incensed by what they perceived as the traders’ defiance of the sit-at-home directive, the assailants spared no effort in expressing their fury. Witnesses recall their audacious comments upon arrival, where they challenged the traders to confront them the following day as a display of courage. Subsequently, the gunmen proceeded to set ablaze portions of the market and targeted commercial vehicles nearby. The consequences of this violent incident are dire, with millions of naira worth of property belonging to struggling businesswomen and individuals with modest incomes utterly destroyed. The repercussions are a cause for concern, as the situation appears to be spiraling out of control. When contacted for comment, Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the state’s police force, assured the public that the situation was being closely monitored. He pledged that thorough security measures were being implemented to identify and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for this reprehensible act. Okoye further took the opportunity to address the people of Imo State, urging them to counsel their constituents against participating in the enforcement of any unlawful sit-at-home orders. He emphatically stated that the Imo Police Command would respond decisively to any subversive criminal activity associated with such actions. In light of these events, members of the public are advised to continue their lawful activities without succumbing to fear or intimidation. Nevertheless, it is crucial to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals or criminal elements engaged in the enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders.
