Fayose: No Regrets Opposing Atiku’s Presidential Ambition

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has expressed his unwavering commitment to his decision to actively oppose the presidential aspirations of Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the lead-up to the February 25 presidential election. Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Sunday evening, Fayose, a PDP member, boldly stated that he harbored no regrets or fears of potential expulsion from the party due to his disclosure.Fayose revealed that his support for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was driven by his adherence to principles. He emphasized that his actions were in accordance with his personal convictions and went on to emphasize the significance of Nigeria as a nation, asserting that it transcends any political party, including both the PDP and the APC.The former governor affirmed his transparency, stating, “I worked against him (Atiku) 100 percent. Nigeria is bigger than the PDP, APC, and even Asiwaju (Tinubu) himself. Let us call a spade a spade. I am not a man that will hide my action. If PDP doesn’t need me again, they cannot say I cannot live.”Despite acknowledging the PDP’s lack of fairness toward him, Fayose professed his enduring affection for the party, describing himself as a man of principles. He made it clear that unless the PDP formally disavowed him, he remained a loyal member. However, he did add that if the party were to declare, “Fayose, we don’t need you anymore,” he would accept their decision. Nevertheless, Fayose expressed his unwavering commitment to the PDP, affirming that he would never join the APC.
