Man Meets Fatal End While Attempting To Vandalize Transformer in Delta State

Tragedy struck the peaceful community of Ute-Okpu in the Ike North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, as an unidentified man lost his life due to electrocution while engaging in acts of vandalism on a transformer. The incident, which occurred in the Ogbe Quarters area, has left residents in shock and mourning.According to eyewitnesses, the lifeless body of the man was discovered hanging on an electric pole near a local market, prompting concerned residents to sound the alarm. Mr. John, a resident of the community, recounted the events leading up to the discovery, stating that a young boy, whose identity remains unknown, stumbled upon the tragic scene while on his way to a neighboring village.”The young boy who was heading towards the next village alerted us about the dead body hanging on the electric pole,” Mr. John explained. “Due to heavy rainfall earlier in the day, most of us remained indoors, unaware of the lifeless body suspended there. It was later revealed that the man had been holding an electric cable, indicating his involvement in cutting it.”Residents of Ute-Okpu have been grappling with a lack of electricity supply for some time, but power was restored by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) around 3 am on the fateful day. The circumstances surrounding the man’s electrocution remain unclear, leaving the community in shock and mourning. Prompt action was taken by local vigilance members, who promptly alerted the authorities and subsequently brought down the lifeless body.Confirming the incident, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, expressed his condolences and shed light on the unfortunate event. “Yes, it is confirmed. The young man was indeed a vandal, and tragically, he lost his life due to electrocution,” DSP Edafe stated.The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with vandalism and the importance of adhering to safety protocols. Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations into the incident, shedding light on the circumstances leading to the man’s demise. The community of Ute-Okpu mourns the loss and hopes for a renewed commitment to maintaining public infrastructure and preventing such tragic occurrences in the future.
