Edo State Police Arrest 53 Suspects in Cult Crackdown

Fifty-three individuals have been apprehended by the Edo State Police Command in connection with cult-related activities, as revealed by the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, during a statement on Thursday.The upsurge in secret cult activities and resulting fatalities prompted the Commissioner to convene a meeting with his management team and command tactical units. Following extensive deliberations, he issued a decisive directive to intensify efforts in cracking down on these clandestine groups.On July 13, 2023, the Command’s Anti-Cultism, Anti-Kidnapping, and Cyber Crime Units, in collaboration with the Edo State Security Network, acted on credible information and successfully apprehended 53 male suspects in various locations. The detainees have since undergone profiling, investigation, and legal processing, and are currently remanded in prison.Commissioner Dankwara sternly cautioned both citizens and organizations in the state against supporting cult groups by providing logistical aid for their nefarious activities. He emphasized the importance of curbing the menace of secret cults and unveiled plans to tackle the issue comprehensively.In pursuit of effective solutions, Dankwara engaged in a meeting with concerned citizens at his office, where they engaged in constructive discussions to address the ongoing challenge. Although specific details regarding the proposed solutions were withheld to ensure their successful implementation, the Commissioner assured that these strategies would be executed with precision and determination to yield targeted results.
