Explosive Exit: APC North-West Vice Chairman Resigns Amid Allegations of Party Interference

Respected APC North-West National Vice Chairman, Mallam Salihu Lukman, has formally tendered his resignation from his esteemed position, marking a significant development within the party’s ranks. The resignation letter was officially submitted on Wednesday to Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress. This announcement comes only a week after the former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, also stepped down from their respective roles. In his resignation letter, which was made available to our correspondent, Mallam Lukman cited alleged illegal actions and undue interference in the party’s affairs, which he believes deviate from the founding principles of the APC.Expressing his reasons for stepping down, Lukman stated that he chose to relinquish his position to avoid becoming a source of distraction and agitation within the party. He emphasized his desire to maintain the integrity of the leadership and support the government of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, without any potential controversies arising from his continued presence in the role.Lukman’s resignation letter read, “Your Excellency, I hereby humbly resign my position as National Vice Chairman, North-West of our esteemed party, the All Progressives Congress. My resignation takes immediate effect, as I firmly believe that the current atmosphere within the party is in conflict with the founding vision of creating a progressive political entity.”He further explained his stance, stating, “Rather than remaining in a leadership position that could potentially distract other leaders and, especially, the young government of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I deem it more appropriate to step aside and take a break from active politics.”Lukman expressed hope that his resignation would encourage the party’s leaders, particularly President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to refrain from engaging in any unjust or illegal actions that could tarnish the party’s democratic and progressive reputation, both as politicians and patriotic Nigerians. In a show of appreciation and gratitude, the outgoing vice chairman extended his thanks to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, for nominating him and supporting him throughout his tenure. He reassured the party that, despite stepping down from his current position, he would continue to contribute his support and dedication to the party’s success, albeit from a more discreet position.”I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to our leaders in Kaduna, especially Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for considering me capable of serving at the highest echelons of the party’s leadership. Regrettably, circumstances have led me to this decision. I wish the party and all our leaders, especially President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the very best, and I will continue to offer my modest support towards the party’s success from behind the scenes,” Lukman stated, reaffirming his commitment to the APC’s future endeavors.
