Tragic: 30-Year-Old Nnamdi Azikwe University Graduate Beaten to Death in a Hotel in Anambra State
In a somber ceremony, Chinyere Awuda, a 30-year-old graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was laid to rest on Saturday, September 9th, in her hometown of Awuda, Nnobi community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Ms. Awuda’s life was tragically cut short on July 15th, allegedly as a result of a fatal beating following her attendance at a birthday party held at a well-known Awka hotel.
Described by friends, family, and former schoolmates as a person of remarkable kindness and amiability, the news of her untimely demise sent shockwaves through her community. Her grieving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Awuda, struggled to hold back tears as they spoke about the profound sadness that now defines their lives. They voiced their anguish over their daughter’s “undeserved death” and expressed doubts regarding the official account of events surrounding her passing.
According to the parents, Chinyere was their fifth child, and her death was a devastating surprise. They maintained that their daughter had a promising future ahead of her, which was cruelly snatched away. They revealed that they had heard reports alleging that she was beaten to death by a group of individuals during the birthday celebration at the hotel. Despite the police’s assertion that an autopsy indicated drowning as the cause of death, the family remains skeptical, citing the absence of released CCTV footage from the incident.
In a voice filled with sorrow, Chinyere’s elder brother, Ekene, expressed his profound regret at the loss of his sister. He criticized both the police and the hotel management for their perceived lack of compassion and cooperation with the grieving family during this difficult time. He lamented the perceived cover-up surrounding her death and called for justice while entrusting retribution to a higher power.
Chinyere Awuda’s untimely demise has left a community in mourning, seeking answers, and yearning for accountability in the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy.
