Stray Bullet fired by suspected cultist Claims Life of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Freshman in Anambra State

Tragic Incident Claims Life of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Student

In a devastating turn of events, a stray bullet, believed to have been fired by unidentified hoodlums suspected to be cultists, has resulted in the tragic death of a 100-level female student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State.

The incident unfolded late Thursday evening at the bustling Miracle Junction in Ifite Awka, a location typically teeming with activity. According to eyewitnesses in the vicinity, the unfortunate incident transpired as the hoodlums engaged in a pursuit, apparently targeting an as-yet-unidentified tricycle operator. Their misguided aim led to a fatal consequence when one of their bullets inadvertently struck the young student, who happened to be walking by the roadside.

The victim, identified only as Uche, was a student of the university’s Faculty of Health Science, specifically enrolled in the medical laboratory department. She was reportedly en route to the market when the stray bullet abruptly ended her life.

An eyewitness recounted the harrowing incident, stating, “This deceased was a 100-level student of the Faculty of Health Science. She was killed on Thursday evening by a stray bullet shot by suspected cultists who were chasing a tricycle operator at the popular Miracle Junction. The tricycle driver was shot too, and he pretended to be dead, but surprisingly, he stood up after a while and escaped when his attackers had left, thinking he was dead.”

Following the tragic event, the remains of the deceased were transported to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital in Amaku Awka.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the incident, describing it as deeply unfortunate. He revealed that preliminary findings suggest a possible link to cult activity, and assured the public that the police are diligently working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. In response to the incident, the police have bolstered their presence and patrols in the Awka area.

Ikenga emphasized the commitment of the police force to combatting cultism and other criminal activities within the state, referencing recent arrests in connection with cult-related incidents. He also urged residents to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities.

This tragic loss underscores the pressing need for increased security measures and a resolute stance against criminal elements to safeguard the lives of innocent citizens.
