JUST IN: Governor Yahaya Bello Of Kogi State Narrowly Escapes Assassination Attempt En Route to Official Engagement

In a startling revelation on Sunday, the Kogi State Government disclosed a harrowing incident involving an attempted assassination on the state’s governor, Yahaya Bello. The shocking assault transpired just a few kilometers outside of the nation’s capital, Abuja, as Governor Bello was en route to an official engagement from Lokoja, the state’s capital.

The grim incident, which transpired at approximately 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2023, was elucidated in an official statement released by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information in the state. According to Fanwo, the assailants, cloaked in military attire, ambushed the governor’s motorcade, unleashing a barrage of gunfire upon his vehicle and other convoy vehicles. Swift and resolute action by security personnel assigned to the governor proved instrumental in thwarting the sinister designs of these unknown aggressors.

The audacious attacks unfolded at three distinct locations, with the final assault transpiring in close proximity to Kwali in the Federal Capital Territory around 4.20 p.m.

Commissioner Fanwo underscored the gravity of the situation, emphasizing that detailed reports of these brazen attacks have been meticulously filed with state and national security agencies. This meticulous documentation will facilitate expeditious and exhaustive investigations aimed at averting any potential reoccurrences.

Fanwo also shed light on the possible motives behind this act of violence, hinting at the upcoming gubernatorial election slated for November 11, 2023. He affirmed the state government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens from security threats orchestrated by unscrupulous politicians who may be behind such acts.

Furthermore, he implored the residents of Kogi to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the relevant security bodies. Fanwo underscored that the government bears the onus of ensuring the safety and tranquility that Kogi has cherished over the past eight years is not compromised due to the incendiary aspects of the political landscape.
