DSS Confirms Release of Former EFCC Boss Abdulrasheed Bawa

The Department of State Services (DSS) officially confirmed the release of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday. Bawa had been under DSS custody since June 14, 2023, following his detainment due to unspecified reasons shortly after his visit to President Bola Tinubu earlier on the same day. The news of Bawa’s release emerged on Wednesday night, marking a significant development in a case that had raised questions.

In a statement released via the official X platform (formerly Twitter), Peter Afunanya, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS, disclosed the development. In the statement, Afunanya succinctly conveyed, “DSS confirms the release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a few hours ago, today, Oct. 25.”

This latest twist in the Bawa case has drawn significant attention and speculation surrounding the events leading up to his arrest and subsequent detention, while also raising questions about the circumstances of his release. The release of a high-profile figure such as the former EFCC chairman is certain to be closely scrutinized by the public and the media as more details come to light.
