According to reports, Murphy Afolabi, a popular Yoruba actor and filmmaker, has passed away after reportedly falling down in his bathroom at his home in Ikorodu, Lagos on May 14, 2023. Afolabi, who appeared in over 60 Yoruba movies, had a distinguished career in the film industry, having been active since 2001. The news was first shared by Seun Olaiya, the president of the Yoruba movies directors guild, on a WhatsApp platform for filmmakers. Other members of the film community, such as Abdullahi Abdulrasaq and Seun Oloketuyi, also confirmed the actor’s passing. Many actors and fans have expressed their condolences on social media, with some still in disbelief over his sudden death. Murphy Afolabi was born on May 5, 1974.
