Police Apprehends Woman Who Allegedly Stabbed 8-Year-Old Girl In Kano State.

The Kano Police Command has made an arrest in connection with a shocking incident involving the stabbing of an 8-year-old girl. The suspect, identified as Fatima Salisu, a 35-year-old woman, was apprehended by authorities following her attempt to flee the scene.Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, released a statement to the press on Friday in Kano. The incident occurred on May 14 around 6:40 pm when a concerned citizen reported hearing the distressing cries of a young girl emanating from an unfinished building situated in Kureken Sani, within the Kumbotso Local Government area. The concerned citizen hurried to the scene, only to find the young girl lying in a pool of blood. She had sustained severe stab wounds from a sharp knife, which was still lodged in her stomach. Additionally, she had sustained injuries on other parts of her body.Upon receiving the distress call, the 8-year-old victim, identified as Sharifa from Gadon Kaya Quarters, Kano, was promptly rescued and transported to Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where she received immediate medical attention and was admitted for further treatment. In response to the incident, Mr Mohammed Usaini-Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, wasted no time in issuing directives for a comprehensive manhunt to be conducted by all police officers, employing all available resources to swiftly bring the perpetrator(s) to justice. Thanks to persistent follow-up and intelligence-led operations, the suspect was apprehended on May 18 in a hideout located in Dungulmi Village, Isari District, Dutse Jigawa State.SP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa confirmed that the victim, who is currently recovering at the hospital, positively identified the assailant as Fatima, a resident of their neighborhood. The young girl informed the police that the suspect had lured her from Gadon Kaya Quarters to the unfinished building in Kureken Sani.”The victim recounted that the suspect attacked her with a knife, inflicting wounds on her neck and stomach. Shockingly, the suspect left the knife lodged in her stomach and callously abandoned her before fleeing the scene,” added the police spokesman.During the preliminary investigation, the suspect’s husband, Yusuf Aminu of Gadon Kaya Quarters, was also taken into custody. Aminu claimed to be unaware of his wife’s whereabouts, citing her alleged mental disorder. However, Haruna-Kiyawa disclosed that the suspect had confessed to targeting the young girl out of revenge. The motive for the attack was purportedly due to the victim’s father repeatedly advising the suspect’s husband to take a second wife. The investigation is currently ongoing, and upon its completion, the suspect will be formally charged in court. In closing, Haruna-Kiyawa expressed gratitude to those individuals who provided valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspect, acknowledging their assistance in bringing this heinous crime to light.
