Two Eko Electricity (EKEDC) Workers Electrocuted in Lagos Tragedy

Two employees of the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) in Lagos State have been tragically electrocuted, according to the Police Command in Lagos State. The incident occurred in the Obalende area of Lagos Island.

The confirmation of the incident was made by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos, who relayed the information to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to Hundeyin, the Lion Building Division of the police command received a report on Saturday at approximately 5:55 pm from a fellow EKEDC staff member on Lagos Island. The staff member reported that on Saturday, a colleague named Umaru, aged 51, was allegedly electrocuted while excavating to locate a faulty transformer cable in the P&T Obalende area.

In a valiant attempt to rescue the victim, another colleague named Sunday Awaruwa, aged 48, was also electrocuted. Detectives visited the scene, documenting it through photography. The victims were promptly rescued and rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital. Tragically, they were pronounced dead by the attending doctor. Their bodies have been transferred to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for autopsy. The investigation is currently underway.
