TRAGEDY: Horse Rider Tramples 70-year Old Man To Death in Jigawa State

Muhammad Mustapha, a horse rider from Jigawa State, has been apprehended by the Jigawa State Police Command following an unfortunate incident in which he allegedly caused the death of a 70-year-old cyclist named Umar Hassan. In an official press statement released on Monday, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest and shed light on the details surrounding the incident.According to the statement, the 25-year-old suspect, a resident of Unguwar Maina in Ringim municipality, was riding a horse without proper authorization when he tragically lost control. This resulted in the horse trampling Mr. Hassan, who resided in Galadanchi quarters at Tsigi Quarters in Ringim Local Government Area. As a consequence of this distressing event, the elderly cyclist suffered severe injuries, including fractures to his left leg and shoulder.The swift response of a police team led them to the scene of the incident, where they promptly transported the victim to Ringim General Hospital in an attempt to save his life. Regrettably, despite the medical attention provided, Mr. Hassan succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. The authorities have since handed over the deceased to his family for burial arrangements.Muhammad Mustapha, the horse rider believed to be responsible for the tragic incident, was taken into custody by the police following his arrest. He is currently detained pending further legal proceedings. The statement from the Public Relations Officer emphasized that a discreet investigation is underway, after which the suspect will face charges in court.In light of this incident, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot, the Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, issued a stern warning and appealed to parents to caution their children against engaging in illegal horse riding activities across the state. The Commissioner made it clear that the police command will not hesitate to take decisive action against any individuals found violating this directive, with the aim of preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
