In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Rumuodara, Ohio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, a woman named Abigail was apprehended by the Rivers State Police for allegedly stabbing a 12-year-old girl. The incident occurred on Saturday, leaving the victim with a knife lodged in her body.According to accounts provided by Olucho, the sister of the injured girl, the incident transpired due to a minor altercation. It was revealed that Oluebube, the young girl, shared a living space with the 30-year-old Abigail. Reportedly, Abigail overreacted to a trivial incident, leading to the shocking act of violence.Recalling the distressing ordeal to journalists in Port Harcourt, Olucho explained that her sister had been washing dishes outside when Abigail fetched water. Due to the dimly lit corridor, Oluebube was unaware of Abigail’s presence. Unfortunately, the young girl unintentionally collided with Abigail, causing both of them to fall.Regrettably, Abigail responded to the accidental contact with aggression, assaulting Oluebube. Despite pleas from neighbors, she persisted in her attack. Olucho further disclosed that Abigail demanded her sister sweep away the spilled water, a request Oluebube complied with. As the young girl began sweeping, Abigail disappeared momentarily, only to return brandishing a knife. With a swift and horrifying motion, Abigail stabbed Oluebube, causing the knife’s head to break off, leaving it embedded in the girl’s body. Distressed by the severity of the situation, Olucho immediately reported the incident to the police. However, Abigail managed to flee through the back door of her room. Fortunately, vigilant neighbors apprehended her and handed her over to the authorities. The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-koko, confirmed the incident and informed the public that the knife had been successfully removed from the victim’s body by medical professionals. Iringe-koko assured the community that Abigail was in custody and would be held accountable for her actions in accordance with the law. Meanwhile, the injured girl is currently receiving medical treatment, and an investigation into the matter is underway.Expressing concern over the incident, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability has called for a thorough investigation into the matter. Prince Wiro, the National Coordinator of the organization, has urged the police to promptly arraign the suspect in court should she be found guilty during the course of the investigation. The public awaits justice as authorities diligently proceed with their inquiries.
