Ruthless Bandits Kill Security Guard In Benue State

In a brazen act of violence, armed gunmen targeted and attacked members of the Volunteer Community Guard in the Tswarev/Ukemberakya council of the Logo Local Government Area in Benue State. Tragically, the assault resulted in the loss of one life. According to a reliable source in the area, who spoke to journalists in Makurdi on Saturday, the gunmen set up an ambush along the route between Iporza and Jootar, striking at approximately 7 pm. The unsuspecting members of the guard fell victim to the attackers’ gunfire.Providing further details, the source stated, “The incident occurred near the Tse Anhwam/Tswarev/Ukemberakya council ward, precisely at a troublesome spot on the road. Two personnel of the Community Volunteer Guard were on duty when the unfortunate event unfolded.” The deceased has been identified as Saater Apera, hailing from Tse Ukusa village. Confirming the incident, Mrs. Salome Tor, the suspended Chairman of Logo LGA, expressed her sorrow and shared the harrowing account. “On the evening of June 30, 2023, at around 8 pm, bandits launched an attack on members of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guard near Tse Anwhwan on Iorza-Jootar Road. The guards were returning from the Ugba Police Divisional Headquarters, where they had taken a criminal into custody for stealing a ram. In this deplorable act, they ambushed and opened fire on the victims, tragically claiming the life of Mr. Saater Apera. Additionally, Mr. Bartholomew and another individual sustained gunshot injuries. The bandits also fled the scene with the Bajaj (BM100) motorcycle owned by the BSCVG in UK/Tswarev council ward.”Mrs. Tor further disclosed that the surviving victims are currently receiving medical treatment at the comprehensive healthcare center in Iorza, within the council’s jurisdiction.In response to this distressing incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received the official report regarding the attack. Law enforcement agencies are expected to commence a thorough investigation into the matter to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore a sense of security to the affected community.
