Former Senate President Anyim Anyim Sheds Light on Purpose of His Visit to President Bola Tinubu

In a significant development today, President Bola Tinubu engaged in a productive meeting with former Senate President Anyim Anyim at the esteemed Aso Rock Presidential Villa. The encounter held great significance due to the presence of Anyim, who previously served as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation during President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure. The meeting, commencing a few minutes before 2 pm, saw the arrival of Anyim and Olisah Metuh, the former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).Anyim, a member of the PDP, publicly declared his intention to contest the presidency on the party’s ticket in 2022. However, in March 2023, he faced suspension from the PDP for purportedly engaging in anti-party activities. His support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, was deemed a violation of party loyalty. In a separate development, Metuh made a public resignation from the PDP and renounced partisan politics altogether in October 2022. Citing health concerns in a letter addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Metuh expressed his decision to disengage from political activities. After the meeting, Senator Anyim addressed the media, shedding light on the discussions that took place. He emphasized that the purpose of their visit was to extend congratulations and support to President Tinubu for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Anyim expressed admiration for the President’s achievements thus far and conveyed heartfelt encouragement.”It was a great honor to pay courtesy to the President and congratulate him, first and foremost, for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and also to encourage and congratulate him for the bold steps he has taken so far,” stated Anyim, highlighting the significance of their discussions.Metuh, the former PDP spokesman, also shared his sentiments, acknowledging the challenging times the nation has faced over the past eight years. However, he expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s administration, particularly in achieving national unity. Metuh commended the President’s early initiatives, inclusive policies, and called for participatory governance to drive the nation forward.”We came to see the President, to commend him for his very good takeoff; the policies he has brought, his inclusiveness, and most of all to canvass for the idea of participatory governance, participatory democracy,” explained Metuh. He further expressed optimism that unity could be achieved through collaborative efforts and stated, “Our nation has bled for over eight years, but we believe that from now onwards, Mr. President has shown the way that the country will come together and then we’ll be able to live happily.”The meeting between President Tinubu, Anyim, and Metuh holds significance as it marks a bridge-building moment and highlights the importance of dialogue and cooperation in the pursuit of a unified Nigeria.
