Landlord trying to separate a tenant and his wife gets stabbed in Rivers State

In a concerning turn of events, the Rivers State Police Command has taken into custody a middle-aged man identified as Patrick Essien, following allegations of a violent altercation resulting in his landlord being left in a coma. The incident unfolded in Rumuiprikon, a suburb within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state. The victim, Iheanyichukwu America, found himself in harm’s way when he attempted to intervene in what is believed to be an assault on Essien’s wife. Chioma America, the wife of the landlord, revealed that even with her husband’s intervention, Essien persisted in dragging his wife into their residence. In a chilling recounting of the events, Mrs. America recounted her husband’s firm stance against permitting Essien’s wife to stay in their home that night, given the escalating tensions. She conveyed, “He (Essien) tried to drag the wife to go inside with him. But my husband said he would not allow him. He was still inside the house when my husband said he would not allow the woman sleep in their house because of the situation.”Tragically, the confrontation took a grave turn at around midnight. As Essien allegedly sought his wife in the America household, he instead encountered Iheanyichukwu America. In a shocking twist, he reportedly launched a violent attack on the landlord, leaving him severely injured.Gladys Bardey, the elder sister of the landlord, voiced her distress at the incident and called for the matter to be pursued legally. She expressed, “I was sleeping when they woke me up that he (landlord) was stabbed this morning by his tenant. So, I started going there to see if what I heard was true. And it is true because I saw him and the injury is much.”Gladys Bardey unequivocally labeled the tenant’s actions as an “attempted murder” and insisted that justice be served through the appropriate legal channels. The spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the ongoing investigation and the arrest of the suspect, Patrick Essien. Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, also disclosed that Iheanyichukwu America was currently receiving medical attention in a hospital.”We are aware of the matter. The suspect has been arrested and in our custody. Investigation is still ongoing,” stated Iringe-Koko, emphasizing the commitment of the police to ensuring a thorough examination of the incident.
