In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the newborn infant who was plucked from a pit toilet in Anambra State, just three days after his birth, has tragically passed away.The harrowing incident unfolded in Otuocha community, located in the Anambra East Local Government Area, where the baby’s mother, identified as Nwaedoka Chidimma from Izzi in Ebonyi State, reportedly abandoned him in a pit toilet shortly after giving birth. This disturbing act of abandonment occurred on a Sunday, where Chidimma had journeyed to the community for agricultural work.The distressing cries of the defenseless child caught the attention of vigilant residents on Tuesday, prompting them to swiftly alert both security authorities and the state Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.Upon rescue, the infant was urgently transported to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku Awka, where he received immediate medical attention.Tragically, Chidinma Ikeanyionwu, the Media Assistant to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, confirmed the devastating news of the baby’s passing on Thursday. She revealed that the infant’s health had deteriorated despite extensive medical interventions, including oxygen administration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.Nonye Soludo, the wife of the state governor, expressed her profound anguish over the incident, labeling Chidimma’s actions as “inhumane and distressing.” As a mother herself, she shared the deep pain of receiving such distressing news.In a statement released on Wednesday by her media aide, Daniel Ezeigwe, the governor’s wife expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family and vowed to pray for the baby’s soul.
