Nigeria Police Kill 3 ESN Members Planning Sit-at-Home Enforcement in Enugu State

Enugu State Security Forces Neutralize Three ESN Members in Preemptive Strike

In a swift and coordinated operation, the Enugu State Police Command, alongside the Nigerian Army, successfully thwarted an attempt by members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order in the state. The operation, carried out on the early hours of Monday, September 18, 2023, resulted in the elimination of three ESN members and the recovery of weapons.

According to a statement released by the Command’s Spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, the joint security team comprising Enugu State Police Operatives, NPF Special Forces, and troops from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army acted on credible intelligence. They discovered the hideout of these subversive criminal elements in Ezioha Mgbowo, within Awgu Local Government Area, where the ESN members were preparing to enforce the illegal order.

Upon being confronted by the security forces, three of the criminals opened fire, leading to their neutralization. Several others managed to escape, but they sustained gunshot wounds during the intense exchange of gunfire. The operation also yielded the confiscation of three pump-action guns, ten machetes, and various other incriminating items. An extensive manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining fugitives.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, commended the joint team for their swift and effective action. He assured the citizens of Enugu State of their safety and security as they continue their lawful activities. CP Kanayo reiterated the commitment of the police and other security forces to relentlessly combat violent criminals, regardless of the guise under which they operate.

In conclusion, CP Kanayo urged the public to report any individuals displaying gunshot wounds to the nearest Police Station while emphasizing the importance of remaining law-abiding and cooperating with the authorities by providing actionable security information and intelligence.
