Tragedy Strikes as Unidentified Gunmen Claim Life of Young Mother in Iba, Osun State

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a young housewife identified as Adijat, residing in the Oke Akute Area of Iba, Osun State, has tragically lost her life after being shot by yet-to-be-identified assailants. The untimely demise occurred in the early hours of Thursday, the 21st of September, as Adijat was undergoing treatment for the gunshot wound she sustained.

Sources within the tight-knit community of Iba reported that the horrifying incident unfolded on Tuesday night at approximately 10:00 pm. Adijat, a member of the Fulani tribe and a mother to a three-month-old baby, was targeted while taking her evening bath within the confines of her own home.

Promptly following the attack, Adijat was rushed to a private medical facility located in Iree, where she remained hospitalized since the fateful Tuesday night. The news of her passing has plunged the community into sorrow and fear, leaving many residents bewildered and concerned about their safety.

Speaking on the matter, a resident of Iba, who requested anonymity, expressed the distress and confusion that has gripped the community. “The reason why they shot her was unclear to the residents,” the source stated. “She was shot by unknown people around 10:00 pm on Tuesday. She was in the bathroom when they attacked her. She was rushed to a private hospital in Iree that Tuesday evening, but she died around 5:00 am today. I saw some police and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps at the scene of the crime. A day after she was shot. We are all scared.”

Kehinde Adeleke, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun, confirmed their involvement in the investigation. She disclosed, “On Tuesday, the 19th of September 2023, at approximately 10:00 pm, a Fulani lady, identified simply as Adija, was shot by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen. The incident happened at Oke Akute Area of Iba while the victim was in the bathroom.”

“Adijat, a mother of a three-month-old girl,” she continued, “however, gave up the ghost today (Thursday) the 21st of September at about 5:00 am. We are joining other security agencies to unravel the mystery behind the incident.”

The community remains on edge as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic loss of life.
