In a significant development, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the exhumation of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, on Thursday. Additionally, the police apprehended the nurse who administered an injection to the deceased singer before his untimely demise on Tuesday, September 12. This revelation came to light through an exclusive telephone interview with the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, as reported by PUNCH Metro.

“Today, Mohbad’s remains were exhumed, and an autopsy will commence promptly,” remarked Hundeyin.

When pressed for further details regarding arrests related to the singer’s death, Hundeyin responded, “I cannot provide information on the arrests at this time, as I do not have that update. However, I can confirm that the nurse is in our custody.”

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, had previously directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohynwa, to initiate a thorough and swift investigation into the tragic passing of Mohbad. The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this directive in an official communication issued late on Saturday night.

Adejobi stated, “On Saturday, September 16, 2023, during a critical discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, issued a direct and urgent order to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructing him to swiftly and comprehensively investigate the untimely demise of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad. He tasked the CP with swiftly uncovering the truth behind the tragedy due to the concerns and speculations surrounding the circumstances of his death.”

The Nigeria Police Force appealed to anyone with valuable information related to the case to cooperate with the Lagos State Police Command, ensuring that justice prevails and the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise are thoroughly examined.

As part of these efforts, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police initiated a full-scale criminal investigation into the case and formed a Special Investigation Team within the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department. This team, composed of seasoned homicide detectives, will consolidate allegations, suspicions, and insinuations from various sources regarding the singer’s death.

Hundeyin stated, “The team will conduct a professional, diligent, and timely investigation, utilizing all necessary protocols, including exhumation, as well as technical and scientific tools essential for examining allegations of homicide of this nature.”

The Lagos State Government pledged its full support to the Special Investigation Team to ensure a meticulous investigative process. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized this commitment during discussions with the State Commissioner of Police.

Furthermore, the Lagos State Governor invited the Department of Security Services (DSS) to collaborate in the investigation, deploying inter-agency cooperation and advanced technology to uncover the truth. Sanwo-Olu also directed that all individuals involved in any events leading to Mohbad’s death be brought to justice.

The state government urged individuals with crucial information to provide it to the investigating team while assuring the confidentiality and protection of witnesses.

Following Mohbad’s passing, his management announced a candlelight procession and tribute night for the late artist. Supporters and sympathizers have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, revealed that Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi, sought his assistance in pursuing justice for her late husband. Falana commended Nigerian youths for their peaceful protests and promised to collaborate with the coroner to uncover those responsible for Mohbad’s suspicious death.
