Tragic Discovery: Missing Abuja Undergraduate Found Dead, Prompting Police Investigation
In a harrowing turn of events, Blessing Karami, an undergraduate student at the National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja, who had been declared missing since September 11, 2023, has been found lifeless in a wooded area in the Karimo district of the Federal Capital Territory. The somber revelation unfolded as local law enforcement authorities pledged their commitment to conducting a meticulous and unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding Miss Karami’s untimely demise.
The lamentable saga began when the 26-year-old student was reported missing, having purportedly departed from her workplace in Abuja’s Garki locality before the close of business hours on the aforementioned date.
Our correspondent has learned that the Divisional Police Headquarters in Durumi, Abuja, took swift action by detaining one Aminu, identified as Miss Karami’s boyfriend, following an intensive interrogation concerning her inexplicable disappearance.
Genesis Karami, the elder brother of the deceased, shared a distressing account with the police. He disclosed that he received an anonymous call on Tuesday, which provided specific details about his sister’s lifeless body. However, this lead, heartbreakingly, turned out to be false.
Mr. Karami recounted, “The caller said he saw a female body in Idu, so we asked him to describe what she was wearing, and he told us exactly what we were told my sister wore to the office the day she went missing.” After failing to establish contact with the Durumi Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Karami, accompanied by a group of officers, proceeded to the Karmo police station. Regrettably, the anonymous caller continued to elude their efforts by changing locations repeatedly, leaving them exhausted and empty-handed.
Subsequently, Mr. Karami confirmed the tragic fate that had befallen his sister. “We saw her decomposed body in the bush here at Karmo; it’s not something we can move. We have to arrange with the environmental authorities to come and assist us with the retrieval. We cannot transport it; we just have to lay her to rest here. It appears she had been deceased for several days, given the advanced state of decomposition,” he revealed.
Responding to this heart-wrenching development on Thursday, SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, expressed the police’s unwavering determination to unravel both the immediate and remote factors contributing to Miss Karami’s untimely demise.
Adeh stated, “The body of Blessing Karami, a 26-year-old woman who had been missing since September 11, 2023, was tragically discovered in a wooded area in Karimo. Her disappearance was reported to the authorities on September 14, 2023.” She continued, “We wish to inform the public that our primary focus at this time, under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, FCT, Haruna Garba, is to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding Blessing Karami Moses’ untimely death. Our commitment to this case is unwavering, and we are determined to uncover both the immediate and remote causes of this tragic incident.”
Adeh further noted the collaborative effort with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) to ensure the respectful retrieval of the decomposed remains, acknowledging the sensitivity of the task. She concluded, “We will continue to provide updates to the public as our investigation progresses. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Blessing Karami Moses during this difficult time.”
