Introducing Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut: The New Leader at the Helm of WAEC Nigeria

In a significant development, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as the new Head of the Nigeria National Office, marking the culmination of an illustrious career in the realm of education and examination administration. Dr. Dangut takes the helm from his predecessor, Patrick Areghan, whose tenure comes to a close this month.

Dr. Dangut, a distinguished figure in the field, boasts a wealth of qualifications and experience that make him eminently suited for this pivotal role. Born on October 2, 1967, in the Mbar District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, his educational journey commenced at the Government Secondary School, Riyom, where he studied from 1981 to 1983. He then pursued further studies at the Government Science School, Kuru, from 1983 to 1986, earning his WASC/SC in 1986, both institutions situated within Plateau State.

His academic pursuits led him to the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, where he earned a Bachelor of Agriculture degree in Animal Production in 1991, underscoring his commitment to the agricultural sector.

Dr. Dangut’s career within WAEC has been marked by a series of progressively responsible roles. Notably, he served as an Assistant Registrar/Subject Officer in the Test Development Division, WAEC, Lagos, from July 1998 to January 2005. His dedication and expertise were further recognized as he assumed the position of Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller at the Uyo Branch Office from January 2005 to January 2008.

Continuing his impactful journey within WAEC, he assumed a similar role as Senior Assistant Registrar/Head of Examinations Security and Deputy to the Branch Controller at the Bauchi Branch Office from January 2008 to December 2011. His leadership continued to flourish as he took up the mantle of Senior Assistant Registrar/Branch Controller at the Yola Branch Office from December 2011 to January 2019. Subsequently, he held the position of Deputy Registrar/Controller in the Post Examinations Department from January 2019 to October 2020, further solidifying his experience and commitment to the organization.

Dr. Dangut’s distinguished career trajectory culminated in his role as Deputy Registrar/Zonal Coordinator at the Ikeja Zonal Office. Beyond his administrative prowess, he has demonstrated his scholarly acumen with numerous educational publications in both international and national journals, a testament to his commitment to advancing education.

Moreover, he has been a prominent speaker at various international and national conferences and fora, where he has presented numerous keynotes and papers, underscoring his deep engagement with critical issues in education.

As Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut takes the reins as the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, his remarkable journey through the educational landscape and his extensive experience within WAEC position him to lead with distinction and further the organization’s mission of promoting academic excellence.
