“Tragedy Strikes as Transformer Explosion Claims Six Lives in Kabong Community, Plateau State

In a somber turn of events, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company expressed profound sorrow over a transformer explosion that unfolded on Saturday, claiming the lives of at least six individuals in the Kabong community, situated within the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The catastrophic incident, sparked by the transformer explosion, inflicted injuries on several others and inflicted severe damage to residential structures, including shops in the vicinity.

In a heartfelt statement issued on Saturday by Dr. Friday Adakole, the Head of Corporate Communications for the electricity company, Jos Electricity Distribution Plc conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the grievous episode.

The statement read, “Jos Electricity Distribution Plc is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that transpired around 03:13 hours today, impacting customers connected to our Kabong primary Distribution Transformer in the Kabong area along Rukuba Road in Jos.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the mishap was triggered by the snap of a high-tension line onto the low-tension lines, leading to an out-of-limits voltage supply. This, in turn, caused the source feeder to trip and inter-tripped the Transmission end source originating from the Makeri Transmission Station.

We remain vigilant in closely monitoring the situation and pledge to provide transparent updates regarding this regrettable incident.

Furthermore, a comprehensive examination of the root causes is already in progress, and appropriate measures will be implemented to prevent future occurrences of this nature.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the families who have suffered losses due to this tragic incident.

We extend our gratitude to the traditional and community leaders in the area for their unwavering support in managing the aftermath of this unfortunate accident.”
