Renowned music icon, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, recently shared his profound grief and heartfelt emotions at the solemn occasion of his mother’s burial. Juliana Balogun, Wizkid’s beloved mother, passed away on August 18, 2023, leaving her family and friends in deep mourning.
On the evening of Thursday, October 12, 2023, a wake and tribute service was held in honor of the late Juliana Balogun. The poignant gathering took place at the illustrious Balmoral Hall of the Federal Palace Hotel and Casino, situated in Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a deeply moving moment during the ceremony, Wizkid expressed his indescribable pain, saying, “I have no words to describe the pain that I feel, and I know every one of my family members shares this pain with me. I know that it is impossible for the pain to go away, so I’m not going to say, ‘take away the pain’, but I know God in his infinite mercy is going to comfort us, to be able to go on with life. The pain is profound; it hurts deeply. It is the deepest pain I have ever felt in my life. I am lost, but I pray and I know God will comfort every one of us.”
Juliana Balogun’s final journey culminated on Friday, October 13, with a solemn church service held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (City of David) in Victoria Island.
The service was marked by poignant moments, with Wizkid’s elder sister, Yetunde, delivering the first Bible reading, and the deceased’s younger brother, Olusanya Dawodu, offering a heartfelt tribute in her memory. A poignant multimedia presentation showcasing the life and legacy of the late Juliana Balogun brought tears and intense emotions to the family and other attendees.
