Police Arrest 2 Primary School Pupils for Setting Fire to their School in Ogun State
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, the Ogun State Police Command announced on Sunday that they had arrested two minors on allegations of setting fire to their school in the Isheri-Olofin area of Ifo Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred on October 29, 2023, has raised questions about the underlying factors that led to such a destructive act.
According to the statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the two culprits are pupils of Community Primary School in Isheri Olofin, aged six and nine years, both residents of the Isheri Olofin community. The minors reportedly gained unauthorized access to the school premises, where they collected books that had been left behind by teachers and fellow students and set them ablaze.
“The incident was reported to the police by a community chief,” Odutola revealed. “The minors gained access to one of the unlocked classrooms at Community Primary School Isheri Olofin, where they proceeded to gather books left behind by the teachers and pupils and set them on fire. The extent of the damage to the books is currently undetermined.”
Following the report, the Anti-Crime and Detectives Unit swiftly responded, visiting the scene of the incident and taking the alleged children into custody for interrogation.
In a bid to uncover the circumstances surrounding this bewildering act, the police intend to invite the parents of the minors for questioning. Odutola emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “The police have started making inquiries on how to contact their parents, as this is a very serious crime for these children to get themselves involved with.”
She further noted that the police would explore the possibility of identifying any individuals who may have instigated the young children, promising to provide updates to the public as the investigation unfolds. The incident raises concerns about the welfare and guidance of children in the community and the need for increased vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This shocking event serves as a stark reminder of the importance of nurturing and protecting the well-being of young minds in society and demands immediate attention from authorities and stakeholders in Ogun State.
