Gun Battle Between Land Grabbers Sparks Panic in Ogun State Community

Gun Battle Between Suspected Land Grabbers Sparks Panic and Fear in Ogun State CommunityOnibukun community, located in the Atan-Ota area of Ogun State, has been thrown into a state of panic as a violent clash erupted between suspected land grabbers. The skirmish, which has been ongoing for approximately three weeks, has left residents living in constant tension, with fears for their safety.Reports indicate that the fierce confrontation has had far-reaching consequences, severely impacting business activities and restricting the movement of people in the area. An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the situation has become so dire that parents are afraid to send their children to school due to the risks posed by stray bullets from the ongoing gunfights.”The fear of stray bullets has enveloped the heart and body of everybody as the gunfights keep echoing,” the eyewitness stated. The unrest, according to sources, stems from a long-standing land dispute between two families. In the heat of the violence, a motorcycle rider reportedly fell victim to a brutal assault and had his motorcycle set ablaze.Speaking on the escalating situation, another resident who wished to remain anonymous expressed deep concern, saying, “If not for my investments here, this is not a place one should live in. We are living in fear. Ask anyone at Oju Ode, Baba Alale; workers who wake up early to commute to Lagos for work can’t try it again because of fear.”Frightened and desperate for a resolution, the residents have called on the state government and security agencies to intervene and restore calm to their community. However, when approached for comments, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, claimed that the incident had not been officially reported to the police.”I’ve called the DPO covering Onibukun, and there is nothing of such in the reports,” she said.As the situation continues to deteriorate, the residents remain hopeful that the authorities will take swift action to quell the violence and restore peace in the troubled community. The need for a resolution is urgent, as the prolonged conflict has already caused significant disruption and posed severe threats to the safety and livelihoods of those residing in Onibukun.
